Project code: BAZ-IPA-02-1255
Contract period: 01.07.2005 - 30.06.2007
Purpose of research: Basic research

It is well known that ramson has various fields of therapeutic applications. Beside the preventive effects regarding cardiovascular diseases (arteriosclerosis), recently it has been proved that blood circulation is significantly improved by administration of ramson. Finally, it has been found, that consumption of ramson leaves results in an increased formation of bile acids as well as digestive enzymes in man, influencing also the composition of human intestinal bacteria (e.g. destruction of Candida species). Rapid and reliable analysis methods for qualitative and quantitative evaluation of plant substances (e.g. cystein sulfoxides and dialk(en)yl (poly)sulfides) will be developed. Using these methods various ramson samples obtained from field experiments will be characterised with special regard to their active principles. The influence of different cultivation methods on the expression of sulfur-containing substances in ramson will be studied in detail. The results obtained from this work will be especially used to optimise the cultivation conditions for this wild species.
