Collaborative Project: Adaptation of microbiological quality determinations to modern production conditions by development and integration of innovate, rapid detection methods. Subproject 6 (NextMilQ)
Project
Project code: 281A108316
Contract period: 01.06.2018
- 31.05.2021
Budget: 141,086 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: bacteriology, process quality, product quality, food quality, milk, product safety
The aim of the research project was to improve the microbiological quality control of raw milk and to align it with the current production conditions in Germany. For this purpose, innovative rapid methods for the differentiated detection of spoilage bacteria (Pseudomonads, Bacillus sporothermodurans) and hygiene indicators (Enterobacteria) as well as mastitis pathogens (Streptococcus spp.) were developed for practicable applications in practice. The spectrum of methods used included a broad range of innovative techniques in the form of immunebased, molecular biological and cultural rapid detection methods, some of which were combined with already existing flow cytometric methods for determining milk quality. In addition, high-throughput sequencing was used to determine the status quo of raw milk microbiota from producer farms across Germany in order to identify determining factors for the composition of the microbiota.
