Criteria and Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management in Peru (SFM-Criteria-Peru)
Project
Project code: TI-WF-08-WF-2022-2496
Contract period: 01.02.2022
- 30.06.2024
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
SFM-Criteria-Peru contributes to ProAmbiente which is a program of GIZ which aiming to implement conservation measures for the sustainable use of forest and biodiversity. The Strategic area 2: "Sustainable Forest Management" seeks to establish a set of criteria and indicators for SFM that can be later used as an important political tool for decision making. Existing literature on the processes of implementing criteria and indicators (C&I) for SFM worldwide, portraits different difficulties for practitioners of SFM and for decision makers. For different stakeholders, the costs of following these criteria are thought to be high and not competitive in regards to their benefits. In the case of Peru, the national set of C&I for SFM is poorly developed and instead FSC became the only reference of SFM. In this context the project expects to understand how C&I can be better adopted by forestry users. As well, how C&I can be a better tool for monitoring, reporting and verification as well as for policy making.
