COST Action E52: Evaluation of Beech Genetic Resources for Sustainable Forestry
Project
Project code: vTI-FG-08-40
Contract period: 01.03.2006
- 30.09.2010
Purpose of research: Applied research
It is now established that impacts of anthropogenic climate change on biota can be proven. The widely spread European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) is an economically important tree species, which is due to its functional flexibility and genetic plasticity well suitable to study the likely impacts of global change on European forests. The main objective of this COST Action is to make predictions of the future distribution range of beech forest ecosystems under the assumption of certain scenarios of climate change based on the analysis of the reaction pattern of European Beech populations of defined origin (progenies of natural beech stands) under changed climate situations in sets of pan European field trials. It aims to make predictions of the future distribution range of beech forest ecosystems under the assumption of certain scenarios of climate change.
