The funding program 'Plant Breeding Research for the bioeconomy' is part of a joint funding initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). The measure consists of two mutually complementary policies to promote research, development and innovation in the field of plant research. The BMEL will fund under this initiative primarily innovative projects of industrial research and experimental development, that pursue an application or product orientation in the pre-competitive stage. The BMBF will promote application-oriented interdisciplinary collaborative projects in basic research, where the involvement of a business partner in the start phase is certainly desired, but not necessarily required (Module A 'Innovation').
