Purpose of research: Networks and research co-ordination
The Front-of-Pack (FoP) nutrition labelling should guide consumers towards a nutritionally better choice of pre-packed foods. The development of a FoP-label was part of the coalition agreement of CDU, CSU and SPD for the 19th legislature period in Germany. Within this process, the MRI evaluated a number of different FoP labels regarding their benefits and drawbacks as well as their applicability for Germany in several reports, and national and international meetings. After the decision was made in October 2019 to use the Nutri-Score in Germany, the MRI continues the scientific support for a further development of this label.
