Project code: 2817600112
Contract period: 01.09.2014 - 31.08.2016
Budget: 143,163 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The aim of the project is the development of an interactive e-learning-system for teaching responsible handling and prudent use of antibiotics in animal husbandry. Key aspects are understanding how antibiotic resistances emerge and how they are selected and recapitulating the specific characteristics of different antibiotic agents. Furthermore a database system will be developed that offers the opportunity to register the individual resistance situation of bacteria isolated from the farms supervised by the participating veterinarians. For a start a website will be created informing about the planned training tool and attracting participants. In the course of the project the website will serve as an information and communication platform. Detailed investigation covering current topics concerning the use of antibiotics in the field of livestock are taken as a basis for the contents of the basic and advanced species specific e-learning modules including model cases. These will be developed in cooperation with the project partners and academic experts and will be provided as a beta version from the beginning of the second project year on. A following evaluation by the participants will assist to optimize the modules. In addition the veterinarians’ prescription behavior will be analyzed with the help of an especially developed questionnaire, which will support the self-monitoring of the participants and which will also be evaluated statistically for further research.
