Food and consumer protection

Project code: FLI-ATB-08-Ri-0823
Contract period: 01.01.2021 - 31.12.2023
Purpose of research: Basic research

The overall aim of the subproject is to determine and verify the transferability of the virucidal dose of UVC light for two different wavelengths (230 nm, 270 nm) on SARS-CoV-2 in different in vitro models (germ carriers of different materials as well as filter material) as well as of the antiseptic effect in an in vitro 3D mucosa culture model, especially. Therefore, in work packages 1.1, 1.2, 1.6 and 2.6, the optimal dose-response relationship will be determined on different materials for two corona viruses and for other viruses causing respiratory diseases. For this purpose, a germ carrier test on glass, metal and plastic will be carried out. In particular, emitters with wavelengths of 230 nm and 270 nm will be used. To prove virucidal effectiveness, a volume with a defined quantity of infectious viruses will be applied to germ carriers, air-dried and irradiated with different doses and at different intervals. The number of infectious virus particles will then be determined using cell cultures. The doses proven to be effective will then be tested under increased protective measures for SARS-CoV-2. In addition, the antiseptic effect of 230 nm radiation will be tested in the 3D oral mucosa model and SARS-CoV-2 (work package 1.7 and 1.8), after this in vitro model has been established at FLI.
