Project code: BAZ-IOZ-02-4139/1
Contract period: 01.03.2004 - 28.02.2007
Purpose of research: Applied research

For this project segregating populations regarding resistance to fire blight are produced. Artificial shoot inoculations are done in the greenhouse to test the resistance of progenies to fire blight. To estimate the reaction of apple seedlings to fire blight an in vitro leaf assay will be developed. A segregating population is analysed to develop molecular markers for resistance to fire blight and for genetic mapping. Within the framework of international cooperation mechanisms of fire blight resistance are analysed, markers for the early detection of fire blight resistant clones are developed and genes responsible for fire blight resistance are identified. All results will be coordinated to develop new strategies for controlling fire blight and to identify new breeding tools. This project is part of a breeding strategy aimed at the minimisation of plant protecting agents to promote sustainable fruit production and conduce consumer protection. The project promotes international cooperation, too.
