Institute for Animal Welfare and Behavior

Institution

Description

The Institute of Animal Welfare and Behaviour was established March 3, 2001 by decree of the Senate of the School of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. Its responsibilities include teaching, research and services in the fields indicated below. The recently revised German Veterinary Licensing Regulations (TAppO) have led to an enormous increase in the amount of required coursework, particularly in the fields of animal welfare (now: 56 credit hours, formerly 8), ethology (28/8 hours) and laboratory animal science (14/8 hours), resulting in a total of 98 (formerly: 24) required credit hours in these fields. This teaching load is shared with the Institute of Animal Hygiene, Animal Welfare and Behaviour of Farm Animals (IAAB).
