Description
The tasks of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) are described as follows in the new version of the establishment decree of 27.06.2013: The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health advises the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in all matters of safety and health and in the humane design of work. The Federal Institute performs functions assigned to it under statutory regulations or by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs or by other Federal Ministries in consultation with the latter. The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is a governmental research institution. It operates, initiates and co-ordinates research and development with the aim of improving safety and health at work and the humane design of work. It evaluates the scientific and practical developments in its field of work and is concerned with the effects of working conditions on the safety and health of workers in companies and administrations. The Federal Institute develops and tries out proposals for preventive occupational safety and health and workplace health promotion. The Federal Institute promotes the transfer of knowledge and proposed solutions to corporate practice, especially in the form of campaigns, publications and events aimed at improving the quality of work in Germany. In consultation with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health participates in national, European and international committees for the formulation of regulations and standards. The Federal Institute collaborates with the institutes which operate within its field of work. The Federal Institute must make the results of its work accessible and render them usable to the general public. The Federal Institute maintains an exhibition as a permanent, actively educational facility in order to educate the general public about the world of work, its status for the individual and society and the significance of the humane design of work.
