Flowcytometrical analysis in the Fragaria collection of the fruit gene bank
Project
Project code: JKI-ZGO-08-4199
Contract period: 01.05.2018
- 31.08.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research
The objective of the project is the determination of the DNA content within the Fragaria wild species collection of the fruit genebank in the Institute for Breeding Research on Fruit Crops, Dresden-Pillnitz and to characterize the variation of the DNA content within one genus and the species. Currently, the Fragaria wild species collection consists of 288 accessions comprised of 24 species and species hybrids. Because the Fragaria species are characterized by different ploidy levels, the determination of the DNA content using flow cytometry is a priority task. The determination of the DNA content is an important application of the flow cytometry and is an efficient method for characterizing the plant DNA, a trait to investigate the biodiversity between species.
