Multiparametric monitoring of nitrate loads in agriculture (MoNi)
Project
Project code: 2820ABS001
Contract period: 01.06.2020
- 31.03.2024
Budget: 4,826,438 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: plant nutrition, emissions, crop production, fertilization, monitoring
The aim of the demonstration project is to test a concept for early and systematic measuring and prediction of nitrate loads on agricultural sites of market crop production, fodder production and animal production under practical conditions. Later, this early monitoring concept shall be integrated into a nationwide nitrate monitoring system. The monitoring concept is based on a multi-parametric set of early indicators such as annual balance values and measurements. Balance values and measurements are recorded at the point of origin of the nitrate loads, (1) on the agricultural business, (2) in the root zone and (3) in the leachate drainage zone. The aim is to record the effects of changes in management practices on nitrate loads from agricultural land directly, rather than with the long time lag typically associated with the EUA groundwater monitoring network.
