Project
Project code: BfR-BIOS-02-1322-218
Contract period: 01.04.2006
- 31.03.2007
Purpose of research: Basic research
Leptospirosis caused by bacteria (spirochaetes) belonging to the pathogenic group Leptospira interrogans has a worldwide importance as zoonotic disease. Humans get infected through direct or indirect contact with infected animals. In this connection, wild boars living in urban areas are of special interest as possible Leptospira reservoir. In this study, urban wild boars are examined for specific antibodies and predominant Leptospira serovars in order to better assess their role as infection source for human beings.
