Collaborative project: Development of an online decision support system for the calculation of the necessary amounts of growth regulators in winter cereals. Subproject 3 (OPTI-Reg)

Project

Project code: 2814906315
Contract period: 01.09.2017 - 31.12.2020
Budget: 37,081 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

The aim of the OPTIREG project was to develop a decision support system (DSS) for calculating the optimal growth regulator application rate in winter cereals for practical use to reduce the application rates of growth regulators to the necessary level and to optimize treatment dates. The DSS has an additional cultivar module that makes it possible to include cultivar response to growth regulator treatment in application rate recommendations. A connected application weather module allows the farmer to schedule and optimize the treatment. The influence of field and weather parameters on the growth regulator effect was investigated in field trials. The effect of the respective application rate on yield and growth factors could be determined in semi-field trials. In addition to the variety assessment note for lodging out of the variety list from the Federal Plant Variety Office (Bundessortenamt), a variety factor could be integrated through the evaluation of plant height measurements in federal and state variety field trials. By specifying the field factors of stand density, nitrogen fertilization and variety connecting with weather parameters, an optimal application rate for three days (today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow) can be calculated. The calculation is available for treatment sequences at BBCH 25 and 31 and for solo applications and growth regulator mixtures at BBCH 31. With the implementation in the Internet platform isip.de and after successful validation, the developed DSS will be available to agricultural practice for decision-making. In addition, the DSS will help to reduce the use of pesticides and still give farmers the opportunity to continue to be economically successful and secure yields.
