Purpose of research: Experimental development
The project „Energy and climate efficiency in the dairy industry by intelligent linking of energy flows” was realized by the department of sustainable products and processes of the University of Kassel, the enterprise Imtech, the engineering consultant KSI and the dairy Deutsches Milchkontor. Result of the project is a virtual factory for cheese production and drying of whey products. Simulating product and energy flows allows detailed analysis of influences on the production process and the heat swing. The developed library of process and energy models is validated by a large scale energy monitoring system. Therefore the simulation tool is suitable for the assessment of energy efficiency concepts. By the analysis of apparently single measures in energy in production planning results showed unexpected effects on different parts of the factory. For the first time a simulation tool enables a holistic assessment of energetic and economic effects on complex production sites of the dairy industry.
