Project
Project code: 2817903215
Contract period: 01.10.2016
- 30.11.2019
Budget: 326,567 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
"Animal welfare in livestock husbandry is an important societal issue. In dairy farming, production diseases and the short life of dairy cows are the main reasons of concern. They indicate an overstrained capacity of the animals to cope with their living conditions as well as of the farm to meet animals' needs. In the “Tier-Wirt” project, a concept for the data-based evaluation of ""animal protection services"" on dairy farms was developed. The link between animal protection service and business data offers new options to support farmers in identifying the most appropriate animal welfare measures which are at the same time relevant for the farmers’ income. Software interfaces were developed to link different sources of data like feeding software with the herd management system. This enables an individual assessment of the dairy cows' energy supply, which is the cause of many production diseases."
