Collaborative project: Animal welfare in dairy farming – from self-assessment to national monitoring by system. Subproject 2 (Q-Check)
Project
Project code: 2817904915
Contract period: 01.10.2016
- 30.09.2019
Budget: 108,060 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Q Check enables a neutral summary of animal-based indicators that can be recorded automatically. Using an integrative approach, 38,668 farms with 3.4 million cows receive a farm-specific evaluation using the Q Check report. Integrated horizontal and vertical benchmarking addresses weaknesses and enables targeted intervention. This type of farm self-assessment serves not only to document the status quo of a herd, but also to identify animal welfare problems at an early stage and thus promotes sustainable - prevention-oriented - and animalfriendly livestock farming. The anonymised results can be used in the sense of a national monitoring for the valid assessment of the animal welfare and thus present an objectively wellfounded picture of the animal welfare situation for 87% of all German dairy cows.
