Production processes

Project code: BAZ-IER-02-2366
Contract period: 01.06.2005 - 31.12.2007
Purpose of research: Basic research

Due to yield losses between 10-15% Turnip yellows virus (TuYV) has gained evident importance in rape seed production and breeding. This holds especially true with respect to an environmental friendly (TuYV) rape seed production as no pesticides to eliminate the vector have to be applied. A prerequisite for efficient breeding for resistance is the availability of detailed knowledge on the genetics of resistance to TuYV. A major aim of these studies is therefore the analysis of genetics of resistance to TuYV followed by the development of molecular markers being the basis for efficient selection of resistant genotypes because the multiplication of TuYV bearing aphids, necessary for successful selection followed by serological detection, is nearly impossible to be integrated into practical breeding.
