Project code: 2818206615
Contract period: 01.05.2017 - 30.04.2020
Budget: 290,710 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

In the joint project, topics were addressed and methods developed that, with a view to climate change and its influence on viticulture, form the basis for the targeted breeding of grapevine rootstocks. Main issues were (1) the introgression of phylloxera and nematode resistance from the rootstock cultivar 'Börner' and from Vitis genotypes, respectively; (2) genetic mapping of root parameters in a population of 'Börner'; (3) creation of a core collection for the efficient conservation of genetic diversity and use of the species V. berlandieri for breeding-relevant traits; (4) the characterization of genetic resources for phylloxera resistance; (5) the analysis of nematode resistance in breeding material and genetic resources as well as its associated resistance to virus transmission by Xiphinema index; (6) the haplotype-specific genome sequencing of 'Börner' to identify molecular markers and candidate genes for important traits to support efficient grapevine breeding.
