Assessment of pesticide metabolites with the use of MetaPath, (Q)SAR and toxicological data from the eASB database at BfR
Project
Project code: BfR-SiP-08-1322-677
Contract period: 01.12.2016
- 31.12.2017
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
Within the frame of the legal procedures for pesticides, the Department 6 (Pesticides Safety) of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has to perform the assessment of the potential health hazards of active substances in pesticides (plant protection products and biocidal products) as well as of their metabolites. However, in contrast to the situation for active substances, there are no harmonized data requirements for the assessment of the toxicological properties of metabolites. Thus, for a suitable health risk assessment and in order to avoid unnecessary testing in animals, particularly data from in vitro and in silico studies have to be used for the toxicological assessment of metabolites. In a pilot project, the data available at the BfR on metabolites of two active substances in pesticides shall be compiled and evaluated. For that purpose, the data from in vivo, in vitro and in silico studies which have been submitted to fulfil the legal data requirements for approval procedures and saved onto the BfR database eASB as well as information from the MetaPath database shall be considered. In the pilot project, the planned work schedule and the methods applied shall be tested on the two active substances Pyraclostrobin and S-Metolachlor and their metabolites.
