Quantification of maize ear fusariosis symptoms by automatic image analysis
Project
Project code: TI-AT-08-PID1752
Contract period: 01.01.2008
- 31.12.2018
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Mycotoxins in food or feed made from maize affect human and animal health. With an automatic image analysis method for the fusariosis assessment of maize ears, breeders, consultants and research will get a practical tool for their work. In experiments of the Julius Kühn Institute that will be repeated for several years, various maize varieties get inoculated at the time of female flowering by conidia of mycotoxin producing Fusarium species. After harvest, an experienced expert rates the fusariosis symptoms on the maize ears visually. Then, images will be taken by a colour camera and by a spectral imaging camera. Based on these images and the rating results, an automatic image analysis method will be developed and tested.
