Collaborative project: Obtaining the common ash through plant of a seed plantation consisting of clones with high resistance to extinction ash drive. Subproject 2: Phytopathologische and molecular genetic characterization and vegetative propagation of healthy Plusbäume (ResEsche)

Project

Project code: 22019915
Contract period: 01.07.2016 - 30.09.2019
Budget: 424,253 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

Chalara ash drive dying pseudoalbidus caused by the fungus of Hymenoscyphus has become a serious threat to the common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.). With high aggressiveness, the disease also in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is progressing and occurs throughout the country in all ash stands. The associated economic and environmental damage are particularly serious. Ash stocks take a M-v because of your location approximately 16,000 hectares and thus have a high importance. The ash trees growing within the framework of close to nature forestry in M-V is thus regarded as indispensable. So ash with a high resistance to (genetically determined) are needed for a rapid reforestation of degraded areas. Recent research results indicate that a small percentage of ash has this resistance. The aim of the project is to identify these obviously non-infested individuals, to characterize, to reproduce vegetatively, and to use for the attachment of a genetically diverse seed plantation of clones. Still, findings about the genetic make-up of the ash, as well as to the genetic variability of the fungus are obtained. The part of the project 'Selection of Plusbäume for the seed plantation and construction of seed plantation' is edited by the country forestry MV. The selection of Plusbäume should be from the available total deposits of ash stands in M-V (and adjacent provinces). In a two-stage selection procedure, the most vital and high dominant individuals on the basis of a classification of phenotypic characteristics of the tree are first identified. The final selection of the Plusbäume intended for the reproduction takes place in the comparison with the gall or molecular genetic investigations in partial project 2. At the end of the project, the system of ash seed Plantation is intended as the most important milestone.
