Collaborative project: Diagnostic methods for sustainable protection strategies against potato wart. Subproject 4 (DIANA)
Project
Project code: 2814903415
Contract period: 01.09.2017
- 28.02.2021
Budget: 107,071 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Potato wart, a disease caused by the fungus Synchytrium endobioticum is the most important quarantine pathogen of potatoes in Germany. As chemical control is not possible potato production is banned from infested areas for many years. Therefore, the use of varieties resistant to wart as well as various quarantine measures are the only effective strategies for disease control. The aim of the proposed project is to develop effective diagnostic tools for both the pathogen and host plants based on molecular markers. This should assist activities which aim at the containment of pathogen populations and which will help to prevent the spread of wart to new, so far uninfected, areas.
