Project code: 28RF5030
Contract period: 22.09.2016 - 31.07.2020
Budget: 217,839 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The aim of this project is to optimize the quality of the beet harvesting process, but also to save resources and to supply the machine operator. The beet quality is measured based on images which refers as an input for the adaptive control of the harvesting and cleaning elements. In the first step the system supports the driver to find the optimal machine settings for the desired harvesting process. Therefore the images are evaluated to get the quality depending on the criteria amount of leafs, amount of soil and beet damage, in particular root fracture. This beet quality is indicated to the machine operator to adjust the machine settings. In a second step the various settings of the machine and its impact on the mentioned criteria are analyzed to serve as a basis for an automated machine setup. The basis for the entire project is the online image acquisition and image analysis on the machine during the harvesting process, which is in combination with the digitized expertise the database for the machine setup.
