Collaborative project: Integration of slope angle restrictions into the Pesticide Application Manager. Subproject 2 (PAM 3D)

Project

Project code: 2814905015

Budget: 92,357 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Keywords: value chains, precision farming, digital world, crop production, integrated plant protection, management planning, data collection, resource protection, resource efficiency, crop production

Within the project PAM3D, new procedures and services were developed for the automated, site-specific slope calculation from digital elevation data. These new procedures and services extend the Pesticide-Application-Manager (PAM) developed in 2015. Thus, they allow calcu-lation of edge strips and application maps to support farmers complying with distance and slope requirements set by the Plant Protection Act. PAM3D also opens up new options for regulatory agencies to implement digitization in the field of pesticide risk management. Even though the slope can be calculated with high accuracy using tractor and drone data, the use of official laser scan data is recommended since they are available throughout Germany and are cost and data efficient. In addition, project results open up numerous new opportunities, far beyond pesticide applications. For example, the integration of the Water Resources Act requirements and those of the Nitrate Directive. Moreover, site-specific mapping of risk zones is conceivable.
