Project code: 0315135C
Contract period: 01.02.2008 - 31.01.2011
Budget: 230,960 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research

Diseases of the foundation have at the farm cattle, pigs, sheep and horse impact on the business success and welfare of animals. The main problems in the four species are the Laminitis (beef), osteochondrosis (pig, horse) and Moderhinke (sheep) . For all diseases can be a partial genetic predisposition shall be subject. The aim of the project is the identification of candidate genes or single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and their association with the occurrence of diseases foundation. To realize are positional and functional, innovative methods used (particularly SNP Array analysis). The phenomenon and genotyping include: - Beef: Mouth findings (2000 erstlaktierende cows), including weights, body condition, back fat thickness, mouth horn morphology. More sample: Linear description for daughters of 2000 insemination bulls. - Pork: 300 F2 animals (DUPI, Bonn); data on growth, carcass, meat quality, linear description of the foundation; osteochondrosis status (slaughtered animals); bone density measurement. More sample: 2000 animals from a breeding line with growth data, linear description, 500 animals with osteochondrosis assessment - Horse: X-ray findings of the joints of 900 stallions of the German race horses (30 offspring of 30 animals). - Sheep: Mouth findings, morphological and histological parameters of the horn mouth; races country merino sheep and Rhön sheep.
