Aim of the project is the advancement of an ultra-high frequency radio frequency identification system (UHF-RFID) for automatic and continuous monitoring and documentation of animal health and animal welfare indicators for breeding sows as well as the acquisition of animal welfare indicators, performance and management data in piglets and fattening pigs. Central point of the exploitation plan is the opening of UHF technology for use in pig husbandry and other parts of livestock farming to achieve an optimised farm and herd management, an automated monitoring of animal welfare and a better traceability of the animals.
