Project code: 28RZ3IP027
Contract period: 20.04.2017 - 01.05.2019
Budget: 134,056 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

During the completed joint project on-farm Recording (Breeding) (PGI 06.01-28-1-35.031-08) based on a new, high-resolution infrared sensor, a method for automatic, three-dimensional measurement of moving dairy cows was developed and presented for the first time at the EURO Tier in 2012 under the name optiCOW. In a feasibility study could be shown that with this new method to objectively estimate the body condition and the description of fat mobilization dynamics of dairy cows without additional human effort. In a field trial with two dairy herds optiCOW was tested as an independent method for determining dairy cow condition. For effective use of the sensor in the data infrastructure of operational herd management must be involved. The aim of the project is the development of optiCOW sensor into an independent, marketable product for automatic, non-contact condition determination of cows with a standardized by ADIS / ADED interface herd management program HERD of DSP and an appropriate evaluation surface to support decisions of the herd manager. In addition, the functionality of the sensor can be expanded to detect with the 3D sensor simultaneously the weight of the animal, the real body measurements and pathological gait can be detected.
