Painful transformation in the locomotive system results in lameness. Occurring frequently and numerous as well as having severe consequences, lameness is a great issue in the dairy industry. In praxi, only one out of three lame cows is detected as such by the farmer. Continuous measurements of motion activity recorded through automated systems are capable of compensating this failure. However, correct interpretation of the collected data sets is complex due to the differences between farms and individual animals. The project KLAUENfitnet 2.0 addresses this issue: Based on the findings obtained in the preceding project KLAUENfitnet, it aims to develop a widely applicable tool providing reliable assistance in managing hoof health in dairy cows by using modern technologies and intelligent data networking. The tool will be trialled under real-life conditions, optimized and developed into a commercially viable product. It aims to detect poor hoof health early and automatically by analysing data on a daily updated basis from several information sources. In order to detect on-farm deficiencies, results and diagnoses obtained during hoof trimming will be differentiated and analysed. This also enables the evaluation of the success in application of treatment and management plans. In an integrated approach, information on hoof and limb health will be further analysed to gain a better holistic understanding. The project and, respectively, the developed assistance tool can enhance and strengthen the service portfolio of herd management programs and application programs for monitoring animal health.
