This model and demonstration network aims to promote the expansion and optimization of the cultivation and exploitation of fodder legumes in germany from 2019 to 2024. Subgoals are: to promote and optimize the cultivation of foddeer legumes by demonstrating in practical farms, demonstration of an efficient harvesting, conservation and utilization of fodder legumes in different exploitation directions with a focus on in-farm use Awareness of the importance of sustainable forage production and its feeding based on fodder legumes through knowledge transfer in practice, advice and schools For this, a model- and knowledge transfer network will be built up from companies from breeding / propagation through cultivation, harvesting, conservation, collection and processing to utilization or marketing. The demonstration network includes both conventional and organic farms and covers major growing regions in Germany. Close integration with research and development projects is planned. In the region of Saxony - Thuringia - Saxony-Anhalt (South), the Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology demonstrates successfully cultivation and utilization of fodder legumes in 10-12 farms. In the low mountain regions of Thuringian Forest, Vogtland and Ore Mountains the emphasis will be on clover grass, in the central german arable region from Bernburg to Nossen on lucerne/lucerne grass. In addition to the main utilization in milk production, the utilization of legumes in beef production, as fertilizer or supplementary feed for not ruminant livestock, as cobs and as the seed production will be demonstrated. In the farms, data on the profitability of legume cultivation are collected, analyzed and compared with other feed production to evaluate of its excellence. Newcomers will be offered advice and mentoring, and knowledge transfer will take place during field days, visits, publications and specialist events.
