Project

Food and consumer protection

This project contributes to the research aim 'Food and consumer protection'. Which funding institutions are active for this aim? What are the sub-aims? Take a look:
Food and consumer protection

Project code: FLI-INNT-08-Ri-0760, 01KI2004A
Contract period: 01.07.2020 - 30.06.2022
Budget: 217,991 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The investigations in this sub-project will provide a better understanding of the current geographical distribution of the Puumala orthohantavirus (PUUV) in Germany and its basal mechanisms. Based on the results of this analysis, public health-relevant information can be transferred to the general population, risk groups and practicioners. The objectives of the second phase represent a continuation of the successful analyses in the first funding period: Aim 1: Spatial distribution and temporal oscillation of PUUV infections in the reservoir host: For a more complete picture of the distribution of PUUV in the reservoir and possibilities for further spread, investigations in the currently established trapping sites in the transects should be kept, with possibilities for establishing further trapping sites in Northern Germany. Aim 2: PUUV sequence types in bank voles: In the second funding period, focus will be set on bank voles from the Eastern evolutionary lineage in federal district Osnabrueck. Aim 3: PUUV tissue distribution in different bank vole cell lines: In the second funding period, a study is planned for bank voles from the Eastern evolutionary lineage in order for conclusions to be drawn about the reservoir-host-function of both bank vole lineages for the Central European PUUV clade. Aim 4: Translation of the novel knowledge into public health measures: In the second funding period, in addition to the preparation of risk maps and recommendations for action following hantavirus infections of rodents, possible conclusions for other rodent-borne diseases will be discussed in the form of a conclusory workshop with a wide range of institutions.
