Optimizing land-based fish production in next generation digital recirculating aquaculture systems (DIGIRAS)
Project
Project code: 2819ERA02M
Contract period: 15.09.2020
- 31.08.2023
Budget: 410,524 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: aquaculture, animal feed, sustainability, environment and nature protection
Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) have been developed for land-based production of sea and freshwater species to ensure high biomass production while reducing resource consumption and maximizing control over operational parameters. The analysis techniques currently used for operational control are often insufficiently sensitive, slow or difficult to use. As a result, the full potential of RAS for more sustainable food production remains untapped. The overall goal of the DIGIRAS project is to develop innovative and data-driven solutions for the digitization of future RAS technologies to improve environmental sustainability, fish health and productivity.
