Project code: JKI-SF-08-1273
Contract period: 01.01.2020 - 31.12.2021
Purpose of research: Applied research

The Pesticide Regulations set requirements for integrated pest management and the use of pesticides with the lowest possible risk to health and the environment. Such a practice requires detailed knowledge of the fate of pesticides under Norwegian soil and climate conditions. The purpose of the project is to provide documentation for recommended tillage and pest control practices in spring and winter cereal cropping to limit the transport of pesticides from soil to aquatic environment, as well as to validate an online risk assessment tool for planning pesticide use. The target group for the project is primarily advisers and farmers in cereal production. Increased knowledge from controlled experiments on which combinations of soil tillage and pesticide use have a high or low risk of contamination from soil to aquatic environment, as planned in the project, is necessary for more sustainable use of pesticides in the Norwegian environment. In addition, SYNOPS-WEB Norway guidance tool will provide farmers and advisers with a tool for environmental risk assessment of pesticides that take account of local soil and climate data. The implementation of the project will provide good documentation on the validity of the results of the tool under Norwegian conditions.
