The Integrated Fruit Production (IP) represents one of the three production methods in German commercial fruit growing. Above all, environmental and consumer protection measures which are not required by law are important objectives of IP. 80-90% of all fruit farms in Germany operate according to the guidelines of the IP. The nationwide applicable IP guideline is drawn up by the Federal Expert Group on Fruit Growing and was last revised in 2006. The IP guideline serves as a cultivation guide and certification of the participating fruit farms. Since many of the provisions of this directive have been enshrined in law, especially in recent years, e.g. In the Plant Protection Products Act or in the Fertilizer Ordinance, many new topics are relevant in the social discourse and new scientific findings on fruit growing are available, the question now arises whether the existing directive is still sufficiently up-to-date or needs to be adapted to the changed framework conditions. Key findings of an exploratory project on the relevance of the current IP directive are: • revision of the IP guideline is absolutely necessary, a distinction between IP and conventional and organic cultivation is necessary • german fruit farmers advocate the development of a nationwide IP guideline
The following work areas are derived from these points for the project applied for:
a) identification of the latest scientific findings for fruit growing and corresponding revision of the IP guideline
b) review of the applicability of the identified and documented latest scientific findings or the revised IP guideline on the basis of 6 model fruit growing companies, adaptation of the IP guideline if necessary and creation of a leaflet with practical project results.
