Purpose of research: Applied research
In 2007, fire blight occured very destructive in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Therefore, a research project was initiated for the breeding of fire blight tolerant fruit trees in Switzerland by Agroscope Changins-Wädenswil. In the frame of this project, in which 8 partners are involved, the JKI will carry out test for fire blight resistance using German and Swizz isolates. By this approach the JKI will be integrated into an international cooperation which will lead to the enhanced identification of tolerant varieties thereby reducing the fire blight problem in the countries involved.
