Oceanography & climate: Assessment of short-term climatic variations in the Labrador Sea (Correlation of Greenland cod (Gadus morhua) recruitment data and ocean/atmosphere environmental data)
Project
Project code: vTI-SF-08-27
Contract period: 01.01.1995
- 01.04.2003
Purpose of research: Applied research
Short-term climatic variability in the area of the atmospheric north polar front leads to variation in the North Atlantic Current system on time scales of weeks to a year. As a result of these changes, ocean temperature, salinity and current variations influence local conditions for growth of Greenland cod (Gadus morhua). This project analyses correlations between climatic and recruitment variability. Model assumptions and statistical methods were tested to show the highly significant relation between the biota and abiotic parameters.
