Production processes

Project code: FAL-OEL-02-039
Contract period: 01.05.2003 - 31.12.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research

Concepts of plant production: Crop yields in organic systems are limited by climatic factors, site factors, pests, diseases and by the adequate supply of available plant nutrients. Utilization of specific site resources must be increased by agricultural concepts. Research is focussing on the identification of cropping concepts tapping higher amounts of site available water, light and plant-nutrients. Moreover possibilities of an efficient recycling of residues of organic farms in organic plant production are highlighted. Energetic concepts: Another way to increase resource efficiency and environmentally friendly production is the reduction of the energetic input in farming processes. Possibilities of the reduction of energy-intensive farming measures and the production and use of in-farm renewable energy-sources are under research. In this field cropping systems, usage scenarios for renewable energy-sources and energy balances shall be ascertained.
