Capacity Development for forest-related Greenhouse Gas Inventories (CD REDD2)
Project
Project code: vTI-WOI-08-2.20
Contract period: 01.04.2010
- 31.08.2013
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
The final objective of the project is to build up in-countries capacity to prepare a national forest-releated GHGs inventory in 6-7 developing countries in a selected region. Countries should have the capacity to develop and report national GHG inventories by 2012. This project will allow all participating developing countries to compile a GHG Inventory following the IPCC Tier1 approach. In a near future in combination with the monitoring systems under development countries will be able to compile GHG Inventories also at IPCC Tier2 or Tier3 approaches.
The project will have a multi-scale approach with activities at global, regional and national levels supported by an online-training to build country-specific national GHG Inventories following the IPCC guidelines. The scope is to have trained people and experts in developing countries which are able to implement a national GHG inventory; people which are able to take decisions on which kind of data and methodologies to be used keeping into account inventory requirements and national circumstances. This is a basic prerequisite to ensure a prompt start and a full integration of developing countries in the REDD+ mechanism. Furthermore additional developing countries can participate in the project at any time to develop their own country-specific methodologies.
