Purpose of research: Applied research

The objective of this study is to design a concept for organic goat meat production. The study consists of three different parts: In a research with goat lambs the meat quality will be tested. In the second part organic dairy goat farms in different sizes will be visit for an interview. In the last part demands of wholesaler will be documented. Another Project (Number 2809OE034) will be develop Meat quality in two lamb goat genotypes (dairy breed and crossbreed with Boer) and sex will be analyzed during two years. The input of work will be recorded for one year and economical criteria will be evaluated about the same one year. Data will be collected on 15 organic milking goat farms in three different sizes: Up to 50 goats, round about 100 goats and more than 300 goats. Corresponding data will be used to calculate costs for organic goat meat production in these three different farm sizes. In co-operation with another Project (Number FKZ 09OE034) market demands of wholesaler will be documented. A questionnaire will be generated and a survey will be organized. All data will be used to check, if the 15 organic milking goat farms can perform these parameters or rather which procedures are needed to meet the criteria. The results will be put into a concept for a marketing strategy of the production of organic meat with goat lambs. The results will be present at a workshop and in publications. All aspects of marketing and demand of wholesaler will be elaborated by another project (FKZ 09OE034).
