Project

Project code: 2817102510
Contract period: 01.02.2012 - 31.01.2015
Budget: 267,294 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

Honey bees and wild bees contribute to pollination of agricultural and fruit farming but also protect biodiversity by pollination of wild flowers. The aim of the project geobee is to combine bee-relevant information and to ease exchange of information in order to protect honey and wild bees in agriculture as well as to come to a cooperative use of farmland. The basis therefore is a bee portal for beekeeper, farmers and conservationists providing interesting and topical information. More than 15 use cases were designed and as dynamic web map application integrated. All map themes can be user-defined visualized for getting conclusions about natural and agricultural information about special interest areas. One use case of geobee is the cooperation exchange, a very innovative component. With the help of this application, farmers and contractors can register with geobee and receive notifications when a registered beekeeper sets up beehives near the field where plant protection measures are planed. Registered beekeepers will receive a notification when a registered farmer or contractor plans plant protection measure near the hives. The tool supports cooperation between agriculture and beekeeping while preserving the privacy since no personal data is exchanged and the exact location of beehives is not disclosed. Only with the consent of both partners a direct communication is supported.
