Collaborative project: Managment tool for a systematic collection and an increase efficiency in dairy livestock farming - subproject 1
Project
Project code: 2817401411
Contract period: 17.07.2012
- 31.12.2015
Budget: 195,675 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project is to develop a management tool that supports dairy farmers to assess and increase efficiency in the utilisation of home-grown and bought-in feedstuffs ant to optimize the distribution of feed resources between feeding groups. The complexity of the processes and the large variability between the farmers require a systemic approach by defining the borders of subsystems and by comprehensively quantifying the nutrient flow within the farm system through the amounts of input and output between subsystems. This approach is intended to balance conflicting areas, to improve nutrient efficiency in animal and plant nutrition, and to contribute to the reduction of nutrient losses into the environment, while simultaneously considering the possibilities for cost savings. The project will be conducted in close cooperation with the partner organisation Data Service Paretz GmbH (DSP). The University of Kassel will primarily focus on the elaboration of a comprehensive data set and on the development of reference values and models for validation. In addition, feed and faecal samples will be taken and analysed to specify reference values. In the developing phase, data and samples will be collected from 16 test farms and integrated into a test model in close cooperation with DSP. In the following phase of specification, data from 60 practical farms serve for validation of the models and for optimization of reference values.
