Project code: TI-FO-08-3.23
Contract period: 01.09.2012 - 31.08.2014
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment

The research project is carried out in the context of the German Federal Government’s obligation to submit a report about the costs due to the protective and recreational functions of forests. The research focus lies in the development and application of a new method to determine the amount of diminution of the revenue in forest enterprises. The diminution of the revenue is defined as the evaded or unrealized returns in forest enterprises, which result from compulsory or voluntary limitations particularly in the wood production process. The accounting results of the Test Enterprise Network (Testbetriebsnetz Forst) of the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection will be analyzed in regard to revenue and expenses in the product divisions “protection and restoration” as well as “recreation and environmental education”. For the determination of the diminution of revenue in forest enterprises, an extra survey within the Test Enterprise Network will be conducted. The diminution of revenue in forest enterprises due to protective and recreational functions as compared to a reference will be calculated with an operational simulation model for forest enterprises. The content of the research project is the development and implementation of the research design, the execution of the survey and the application of the simulation model.
