Preparation of a prototype for a national animal welfare report

Although animal welfare is broadly discussed in the public, a thorough coverage of the developments and the status quo of animal welfare in livestock production is not yet available. The project aims to establish the prior condition for the periodic publication of a scientific national animal welfare report. For this purpose, a draft of such a report is being prepared, the availability of data and indicators examined and the necessary provisions for the use of data are made. An animal welfare assessment of the German livestock farming will be carried out exemplarily on the basis of indicators for the areas of breeding, husbandry, transport and slaughter for all major livestock species.
