Biological and chemical investigations on avoidance of discolorations in Black Cherry (Prunus serotina Borkh.)“ Black Cherry (Prunus serotina Borkh.) assortments are currently among the most important woods for the European furniture and interior design industries. However, the decorative application of Black cherry is impaired by the occurrence of discolouration during processing – in particular during veneer production – which lead to devaluation and complaints. The discolouration are caused by chemical reactions of phenolic extractives in the wooden tissue.
In order to provide a better understanding of the chemical processes responsible for the discolouration, biological and topochemical analyses of the phenolic extractives and there chemical reactions during processing were basically studied.
