Project code: 28RZ372053
Contract period: 10.02.2015 - 31.08.2018
Budget: 268,021 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

In the context of this project, a data information system will be created, which will be a useful and efficient tool for the prevention, and early warning of health and welfare deficiencies in pig herds. This will be achieved by systematically cross-linking existing official data (especially the data from the official authorities responsible for ante- and post-mortem meat inspection) with the existing internal and external production management data from private food business operators including farmers as well as the data from food chain quality assurance systems. The project is divided into 6 work packages. In the subject-specific work packages, data sources of associated data suppliers will be identified and analyzed. Based on this analysis, a standard for data entry and further data handling will be developed. Within the technical working packages, a secure data information system, which enables the cross-linking heterogeneous data sources, will be developed. Additionally, a technical model for data security and data integrity as well as a hierarchical system for access authorization will be established. Through special Web services, a range of expert functionalities for interpreting the cross-linked data will be provided as required by all stakeholders. Based on the results of the first four work packages, a demonstrator programme will be developed. Finally, there will be an assessment of the added information value of the developed Data Information System as tool for continuous improvement processes in pig husbandry.
