The Reference Farms Network, a joint project of the Federal Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV), the State Plant Protection Services and the Julius Kühn-Institut, was established in 2007 as part of the German National Action Plan on Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products. Its aim is to conduct annual surveys of pesticide use in main crops on representative farms and to collect other data related to plant protection. Treatment Frequency Index (TFI) scores were calculated and assessed with respect to the necessary minimum pesticide use by experts from the plant protection services.
