Purpose of research: Demonstration

Demonstration farms for integrated pest management (IPM) were established and analyzed. Demonstration farms shall consequently perform plant protection requirements of IPM according to guidelines for integrated pest management. Innovations which can particularly contribute to limit pesticide use on necessary amount were implemented in these farms. Showing the excellence of used plant protection innovations and the whole IPM strategy, the direct comparison to plant protection in the reference farms of the given region is provided. The demonstration farms are financially and personally supported und implement IPM in close co-operation with advisory service. JKI undertakes the tasks of the coordinator, summarizes the results, performs statistical analyses and communicates the findings. The project starts with 4 apple farms and 4 wine-growing farms in spring 2011 and 5 arable cropping farms in autumn 2011. In 2013 7 additional arable farms will involved.

The model and demonstration project „Demonstration farms integrated plant protection“, financed by BMEL and managed by BLE, was launched in November 2010. The JKI Kleinmachnow is involved with the sub-project 'Coordination'. It is responsible for nationwide coordination, data analysis, evaluation of findings, public relations and knowledge transfer. The present report informs on the realized activities in the period 04/2015 to 03/2016. Activities included meetings with the federal states and the demonstration farms, publication of a brochure, maintenance of the homepage http://demo-ips.jki.bund.de/, collection, revision and analysis of field specific data concerning application of plant protection products as well as expenditures for monitoring.
