Collaborative Project: Consistent data and information system for acquisition and analysis of early indicators of seed quality (KODIAQ) - subproject 2

Project

Project code: 2815706915
Contract period: 01.05.2016 - 30.04.2019
Budget: 280,461 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The KODIAQ project aims on the analysis of effects and interactions of different internal and external factors for the germination capacity of seeds. Using modelling approaches corresponding early indicators will be developed. Early and efficient control of this trait shall increase the resource efficiency and added value in seed production as a highly specialized agricultural sector. The objective will be approached exemplarily for hybrid winter rapeseed. Germination ability is complex trait highly influenced by environment and annual effects. To develop most early indicators along the production chain a comprehensive data basis is inevitable. This data base has to link and integrate agronomic, environmental and seed-specific data in order to predict seed quality. A data and information system will be generated which will represent the production chains and process steps of seed production and which will record and integrate big amounts of diverse data. To deduce the early indicators mathematical and informational methods of data mining will be employed as well as machine learning approaches. The indicators will iteratively be improved by continuous further input of additional data collected during the project which relate to whether and climate, to canopy traits and to seed specific RNA profiles. It will be pursued to increase accuracy, robustness and on the long run universality of the indicators, in order to take action for securing the required seed quality even under risky conditions.
