Exploration of sustainability potentials by use of sensor-based technologies and integrated assessment models in the production chain of plant related food

The agricultural and food industry needs to implement novel quality management systems in the food production chain to maintain a high quality and safety level in products and processes and to minimize produce losses. PSn2 aims to improve sustainability of value-added food production chains 'cereal grain' and 'perishables'. Within PSn2 new sensor-integrated systems for online monitoring of process and product quality are being developed. Furthermore, critical points of particular relevance for quality and safety matters are being identified, assessed and quantified. Non-destructive methods are being developed for application to determine micro-organisms, and thus to inhibit mycotoxins and to prevent high decay-induced losses in the production chain. Additionally, technology assessment provides planning criteria for the implementation of new sensor techniques into production chains.
